Here are a few tips for keeping your nails strong and healthy. The number one rule to having healthy and strong nails is- NOT BITING THEM! I myself am an offender of this rule, but hopefully with a little practice and patience I can overcome this horrible habit. Biting, ripping, chewing, and bending are very harmful things we do to our nails (sometimes on a daily bases) so in order to help with overcoming these awful habits, try the following tips.
- Realize that you have this habit
- Keep your hands busy [Play with your hair band or runner band, get a stress ball (QUICK DIY stress ball- get a small or medium sized balloon, fill with flour, tie balloon, and draw a little face on it *-*) or a pencil or straw to play with in between your fingers]
- Put Vaseline on your nails (Since Vaseline works as a great moisturizer for your cuticles and the skin around your nails, don't be afraid to dab a little on your nails, I'm sure they are less desirable to bite when dipped in Vaseline)
- Eat rich calcium filled foods to help nails grow stronger and thicker so they are not as easy to bite or tear.
- Get a manicure! No one likes to mess up a fresh manicure! (TIP- bright colored manicures will help because if you do bite, it is much more visible on a brightly colored nail and again, no one wants that!)
